Beach Walk
Today, let’s go for a beach walk to promote a wider perspective, divergent thinking, and the generation of novel ideas. Coastal environments offer a distinctive form of multi-sensory immersion that shifts cognition toward broad, exploratory modes rather than narrow, focused ones. A beach walk has a unique convergence of sensory modes that distinguish it from more enclosed natural settings that prioritize attention restoration and make it particularly suited for evoking expansive cognition, creative ideation, and a diffuse attentional state conducive to associative fluency and the quiet incubation of creative insight.
This type of walk is best practised in the morning or late afternoon on a beach that is sparsely populated enough so that you may keep an even walking pace for at least forty minutes. My preference is to walk in warmer temperatures when I may go barefoot just along the shore where the sand is damp and gives a slightly firmer surface. Join me in this audio as I provide minimal guidance designed to support reflection on a relational or ethical matter, something involving how you’re relating to another person, or how you’re holding a situation, without trying to analyze or resolve it.
